FINDING THE RIGHT EMPLOYER
When it comes to securing an apprenticeship placement, persistence and networking can make all the difference. Isaac recommends using the people and platforms around you.
Any application or interview process can feel daunting, not just for school leavers, but for anyone taking the next step in their career. To help ease those nerves, we spoke with three of our Level 2 Bricklaying apprentices, now in their second year at AccXel, about their experiences and the advice they’d give to others starting out on their apprenticeship journey.
Advice from Coby, Isaac and Jake.
“It is important to make a strong first impression from the very start.
Think of an interview as the very first impression of the kind of worker you are. Employers want someone who will be on time, professional and enthusiastic to learn.
Turn up with plenty of time to spare and wear smart, presentable clothes. NOT a tracksuit!”
“Confidence and preparation are important.
“I’d always shake the interviewer’s hand, it shows confidence before you’ve even sat down. You’ll be asked lots of questions, but they’ll usually ask if you have any too, so come prepared.
It’s a great chance to show interest and show you’ve done your research.”
“Be yourself and learn from every experience.
Authenticity is key: you’ll stand out just by being yourself. And don’t worry too much about the outcome.
Every interview is good practice and will only help build your confidence.”
