Groundworks Apprenticeship (Level 2)

What is a groundworker?

Groundworkers are among the first tradespeople to arrive on a construction site and the last to leave. They prepare and shape the ground so that buildings, roads, and other structures can be built safely and effectively.

As a groundworker, you’ll:

Prepare sub-surfaces for construction

Install drainage systems

Lay kerbs, paving, and concrete

Landscape and reinstate ground surfaces

Read and work from technical drawings

How does the apprenticeship work?

1 day a week at AccXel – You’ll study both theory and practical skills on our live mock site, designed to simulate real construction environments.

4 days a week with an employer – You’ll then put your learning to practice on actual construction projects, gaining valuable experience and knowledge alongside skilled professionals.

Portfolio & Final Assessment – You’ll build a portfolio of evidence throughout the programme, then complete an End Point Assessment (EPA) to achieve your qualification.

Earn While You Learn – You’ll be paid a wage for the entire duration of your apprenticeship, gaining a recognised qualification at no cost to you.

Key Course Information

Course Length: 18 Months (Maximum)

Entry Requirements: We have no formal entry requirements. If you don’t achieve your Maths and English GCSEs, you’ll complete Functional Skills as part of your apprenticeship. However, we strongly encourage all students to give their GCSEs their best effort!

Qualification: Upon completing your apprenticeship, you will achieve a Level 2 qualification in Groundworks, alongside additional smaller bolt on qualifications.
