What is a JCB Plant Operator?

Plant operators use heavy machinery to dig, lift and move materials on building sites.

They can dramatically change landscapes and install impressive structures in a short time.

Plant operators need good spatial awareness and dexterity to move large scale machinery and also be competent with technology to understand and operate machine software.

The job role of a plant operator involves the following duties:

Using 180 and 360-degree excavators
Moving earth with excavators and dumper trucks
Loading shovels
Levelling out areas
Using forklifts to unload and move materials around the site
Carrying out safety checks and keeping machines running properly
Changing buckets and other machine attachments
Use of technology and machine software

JCB Plant Operator course details

Our JCB Plant Operations Apprenticeship is a maximum of 15 months.

For the first week of the programme, apprentices will attend AccXel every day, for their induction period. In this mandatory training week, you will receive health and safety training, introduction to practical work and support prior to starting on site. Following the first week, apprentices will attend AccXel one week of every month.

Our apprenticeship combines theory and classroom learning alongside practical sessions on our unique mock-live site. This allows our apprentices to practise their skills in a risk-free environment, prior to implementing them on a live construction site.
